Today, instead of writing about tips or cultural notes, I am going to share with you about my personal experience which occurred to me this Saturday morning on April the 19th of the current year. It was just a day after Good friday. A good friend of mine and I were looking for a place to get something to drink althought we drove around Portoviejo without luck.
However my friend remembered a good place to go, finally we got there. The owner of the place invited us to enter at her place which portrayed a garage full of tables, but no people.
While I was entering the place, I saw one of the teachers of my university; he was the only person in the place, and was sitting and drinking lonely. I greeted him and returned to my friend.
My friend and I were discussing about new ideas and how to implement them actively in an english class. I explained him some activities for his classes and he did it the same as well. I found my friend´s tips very interesting and useful so I asked him,¨Do you have a pen to take notes¨. He replied ¨No, but I´ll get one and a piece of paper too¨.
As my friend was going outside the place. The University´s professor asked me, ¨Excuse me, How old are you?¨ I replied, ¨28¨ He continued,¨ When I was your age, I was like you. Now I am 50¨, so I realized that He had been listening to me all the time during the conversation I had just had with my friend.
The professor continued, ¨You know too much¨, I replied, ¨Thank you, but I don´t¨ He said seriously, ¨Don´t let people fool you¨ I was intrigued by the professor´s word. Why was he telling me that?
My friend arrived and the professor stopped talking to me. ¨¨Here we go, I got a pen and a piece of paper¨. my friend said. We continued the conversation with my friend and after a few minutes, he went outside to get some drinks.
As my friend was leaving the place, the professor repeated,¨ Don´t let people fool you¨ Do you know Albert Einstein?¨ he asked me. and I answered, ¨who doesn´t?¨ He is a famous physicist.
He was the creator of the special theory of relativity¨. He responded seriously and proudly, ¨ No, I am a physicist I could prove more than that theory, things about matter and energy that you wouldn´t understant. ¨ Despite his attitude, I prefer to listen and be still. I noticed that something was not right about this man.
The professor stood up and said,¨I´ve got to go¨. He got his bicycle and asked me, ¨Do you know why am I riding a bike?¨, I responded,¨It´s a good exercise, isn´t it?¨. He said,¨No, I just dont like to drive because I hate when people blow their horns, I can´t stand people.¨ I was surprised what he just said.
All that hatred and pain inside him what pushes him to be like that. ¨ He finally shook my hand and left saying, ¨Don´t forget Don´t let people fool you¨ Wow! I wanted to cry, I felt so sad for this man.
All his suffering and pain inside him. It was his true and he was telling me to follow so. I asked myself¨¨Why didn´t I have the nuts to tell him a word just to persuade his intelectual mind?.
As I was thinking about it, my friend arrived and said¨ Here we go, some drinks¨. I didn´t have time to analize this at that moment, but when I got home. I realized that the professor is suffering. He doesn´t love. He is not happy. He is struggling for existense.
He was trying to give me a message, it was not the right one however. He is sure of his true. His true that makes him unhappy althought God has the real truth for him.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. The professor and anyone who feels this way only needs to accept that true. If I saw him one day again, I would definately tell him that he needs to love and that God teaches us to love everybody.
He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” Furthermore, God demands us more
Matthew 5 43-48
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor[r] and hate your enemy.’[s] 44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors[t] do the same? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
¨Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.¨
