WORD MAP

WORD MAPS ARE VISUAL HELPERS TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF A WORD. THEY PROMOTE VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT.
NOW HOW CAN YOU USE THE IN THE CLASSROOM?IT IS EASY YOU JUST MAKE THEM ELICIT THE MEANING OF A WORD IN CONTEXT. FOR EXAMPLE:

THE STUDENTS ARE READING AN ARTICLE X… THERE ARE SOME WORDS THAT THEY WILL NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH.

FOR THE FIRST TIME THE TEACHER MODEL A WORD MAP WITH A NEW WORD. AFTER THAT STUDENTS WILL WORK IN PAIRS TRYING TO COMPLETE  AT LEAST 3 WORD MAPS ON THREE BIG SHEET OF PAPERS OR BETTER POSTERS IF YOU CAN GET THEM.

YOU GIVE THEM 7 MINUTES TO CREATE 3 WORD MAPS IN 7 MINUTES IN PAIRS AFTER THAT THEY COMPARE THEY WORD MAPS AND FINALLY PRESENT TO THE CLASS. BY PRESENTING THE WORD MAPS IN FRONT OF THE CLASS, THEY WILL NOTICE THE NEW VOCABULARY AND ITS USE.

THE PAIR WITH 3 CORRECT WORD MAPS GET 6 POINTS.
